Professor Avia Spivak

Professor Avia Spivak is a Senior Fellow at the Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem since 2006, and is one of the founders of the Institute's Economics and Society Program. He is the Paul Ivanier Managerial Economics Professor of Economics at Ben-Gurion University, where he also served as Chair of the Economics Department and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Prior to his appointment at Van Leer, he served as a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Israel, during the years 2002-2006. He has been a visiting professor at Brown University, UCLA, University of Pennsylvania, and Boston University, where he has taught both under-graduate and graduate classes in economics. During the social protests of 2011 he, together with Porfessor Yosi Yonah, chaired a team of experts at the protests. The team's conclusions were published in a book called We Can Do This Differently: An Outline for the Establishement of a Just Society and was edited by Spivak and Yonah.
