Zeev Levin
Dr. Zeev Levin is a graduate of the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at Tel Aviv University. His doctoral dissertation examines relations between minorities and state authorities, including the Jewish community, in Soviet Uzbekistan during the interwar period. This research was published as a book in Hebrew by the Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi Institute and in English by Brill.
In addition, he published many articles and edited collections. Dr. Levin serves as Head of the Research Center for Jews of Central Asia and the Iranian Sphere at the Ben-Zvi Institute for the Study of Jewish Communities in the East, and as a Research Fellow at the The Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Center at Tel Aviv University.
As part of his scholarly activity, he has initiated and led research groups and international conferences focusing on Russia’s involvement in the Middle East, Central Asia, and the broader interactions between Central Asia and the Middle East. His research interests include the Muslim republics and regions of the former Soviet Union; minority–state relations; Russia’s policies toward the Middle East and Muslim societies; Jewish–Muslim relations; colonial and postcolonial perspectives in Soviet and post-Soviet contexts; Soviet policy during the Stalinist period, including mass deportations and the Gulag system.
